Both tribes in the survivor episode have diversity in there groups. It seems that most everyone in the groups come from different back grounds and cultures. Also, some of them have difference in sexual orientation and gender. This makes for interesting dynamics as well as a need for cultural understanding. The team members must adapt understand and work with each other despite their differences. There are some group members that are extravert and some that are introverted. Some tribe members express conscientiousness while others are careless.

From the beginning of the episode the chapter begins to unfold with The Team voting off John Rocker because of past Prejudice, stereotyping and discrimination accusations brought up by the tribe. This was a clear explanation of how these things can negatively affect a group and cause for a member of a group to be ousted for not being sensitive to other cultures and race regardless of whether it occurred during the show or in the past. It is apparent that it was a behavior that the team did not want to tolerate. Later in the show with john gone, his girlfriend expressed that she could better focus on her tribe and team and not so much on herself applying to collectivism. Masculine feminine values became an issue as the thought of the hunapu tribe having to vote someone off of the show. The women began to band together and the Drew was afraid that some of the women may be trying to take on a dominant role and control the game. There is at the same time concern about men being kept on the team due to men being strong and athletic. Overall there seems to be a great need to balance personality types.

My philosophy of the our technology class is quite simple: Utilizing technology skills and learning how technology is growing in education. I have also learned new ways to communicate via social media (Twitter and blog). This class has given me ideas of how I can include technology in the class and how to communicate with my students. Twitter and blogging are great ideas to include in class. Students are becoming so interested and engaged with technology that it’s important to continue using what is keeping them engaged. Another philosophy I have developed is it’s okay not to be an expert in technology. I have given myself a hard time because I do not understand some technology lingo, but hey it’s okay. I will eventually learn more!  We have accomplished half of the semester already and I am looking forward to learning more, especially now since method courses are over! WooHoo!

New tribes have surfaced so its the perfect episode to talk about diversity. In terms of dimensions, i think that the ones that are present in these groups would be gender and generational. Keith in particular is now apart of a group of paired loved ones. Not only does being the only “single” hinder his game, but the fact that he is one of the older ones doesn’t help it either. Especially when it comes to challenges, they want someone who can be physically helpful. BUT, since Kelly is now gone, maybe him and Keith should work together.

When it comes to gender, i think it is kind of tricky. Some of the girls competitively might not be as athletically able to contribute. I think Natalie is one of the girls that can hang with they guys while Baylor might not be up to her level. I also see that there are a few alpha male personalities; they seem to me to have that stereotype. For instance, one of the brothers just relaxed and explained how he does not “weave” for their bed. Proclaiming his masculinity and basically saying that thats the women’s job. But it will be interesting to see how it plays out now that there are new teams.

Not only do you get diversity in gender and generation, but we see some diverse backgrounds. For instance, theres a gay couple battling religious backgrounds, and southern farmers who do not necessarily interact with people like them. Due to the strategy of the game, they need to be culturally relativistic.

Survivor Blog #4 Diversity Chapter 4
In this Chapter it goes over Extroverts-Introverts, Judger-Perceivers, Thinkers-Feelers, and more. Extroverts are outgoing and expressive, Introverts are more reversed and private. Thinkers are tasks oriented and feelers are more people oriented. Judgers value organization and structure and Perceivers value flexibility and spontaneity. These are some of the MBTI personality traits.
In episode 4 Julie finds out that her boyfriend is voted off. John was known to be a little prejudice which made people not like him and ended with him off Survivor. She explains that she had to shelter her self and focus on what she was doing and not him. She didn’t allow her first thoughts or feelings come out before she thought about them. This makes her an Introvert for keeping private, and a thinker for being able to control her feelings about her loved one and made a plan about how to stay on the show.
Also on the blue tribe Drew took the incentive to speak up and try to make a trade for the flint (they “lost” before) for some fishing gear they won an episode ago. No one wanted to say anything, even though if it could have been traded it could have helped the tribe greatly. Drew explains this and goes for it. Even though he is turned down he demonstrated some personality traits. He is an Extrovert for speaking up first and for being expressive. He also could be a thinker because he understood that there was a chance they could gain something and went at it at a direct way and was firm about it. These two people demonstrated these personality traits throughout episode four.
