Week One by Jade

I have been looking forward to this class ever since my rotation in the ER this summer! Being in the ER was a whirlwind of learning combined with a HUGE dose of action-packed nursing care. My last patient had fallen into respiratory failure and needed to be revived, which was (again) an amazing learning experience. It gave me a taste of critical care and what I may encounter…

I am both thrilled and suffering from wonder and anticipation about this semester…I only hope there is enough time to learn everything I need to know !

Introduction

Hello,

My name is Janell. I am first and foremost a wife and mother, then student and nurse. My daughter is our joy and blessing from above, she is now 15 months old and so much fun. I quit my job as a med/surg nurse after she was born just as school began- altogether with the hormones combined it was the best decision!

I have taken a very long route to my BSN. I started in a program for it in 2002 but was on an athletic scholarship and traveled with my sport, missing some key classes held once a week (on travel days) and had to drop, only to find out ALL prerequisites and nursing courses were offered IN order- no summer make ups etc… so I went with my double major and graduated with a Spanish (Languages) Degree –  from Liberty University, only to be wait-listed at Saddleback College back home for my ADN… finally I graduated in 2009, when the bonuses stopped, new grad programs dried up, no one was hiring ADNs and in 2010 “BSN in 10” began!…. SO here I am!

I do plan to go back to work but I would like to change fields. I am extremely interested in Labor and Delivery and Postpartum, my interest only increased with my own birth experience. I also really like the idea of becoming a Lactation Specialist, I know it is quite a journey from here- got to switch departments, get a new job, and graduate first!

As my blog title states…hello world! Welcome to the blog of Sam G. Otherwise known as samgo. I hope that my posts resonate with you and inspire some thought!

To share a little about myself: I am a new transfer student at CSUCI. I am an English major that hopes to be an elementary school teacher! I have a great love of books, arts and crafts, and all things Disney. Reading has always been a loved pastime for me; books have been a large part of my life since birth.

Aside from school, I work at a shoe store in the outlet mall; otherwise, my time is spent at my church! I am a devout Catholic, and I spend a great amount of time doing volunteer leadership with my church, and I also sing in the choir. I have other musical talents such as playing the clarinet, piano, guitar, and the ukulele. I was in my high school’s marching band, and I loved every minute of it. I also enjoy a few different video games: a personal favorite being the Legend of Zelda franchise as well as the Kingdom Hearts series.

I always find myself immersed in whatever I do: whether its school, work, or my leisurely activities. I put myself to it one hundred percent. Whatever you put into your work, you get out of your work!

Introduction

Hello, my name is Marina. I am 21 years old and I am a transfer student here at CI. I came from Santa Barbara City College and graduated with an AA-T in Communications. I am a Communications major and a English minor. I was originally an English major but changed it because I really don’t want to teach. I love cats and I wish I could have my own but the cat wouldn’t be happy because I wouldn’t be around to love it. I play the trumpet and prefer to play swing. I picked up widdling (wood carving) a few years ago, and enjoy making my little sculptures. I have only kept one and have given the rest away. I have a thing for watches and hats. I like the intricacy of a watch, and my life runs on the clock; so it’s well adapted that I should appreciate a good watch. I think I just look really good in hats. They pull an outfit together. I love them and, to prove my point, I have at least 22 hats. I stopped counting after that. I have an appreciation for art even though I don’t know much about it. So if someone would to take me to an art show, I would enjoy myself.
