Sage Symposium

Summers_FinalDraftESRM499_s16Yesterday I attended Sage Symposium at CSU Channel Islands. The conference overall went really well and I felt reactions to my project were positive. I personally felt more relaxed at this conference than AAG because I have presented at Sage before and I felt more prepared with information on my … Continue reading

ENVI Dark Object Subtraction

I spent several hours this past week tying up loose ends of the project by learning a new mapping software called ENVI. This key program is a vital source of my project because it has a tool that GIS doesn’t have, called ‘Dark Object Subtraction (DOS)’. This DOS tool searches … Continue reading

Vegetation Signatures

I finished the official 2015 vegetation signatures several weeks ago and recently produced a scatter plot example of how the program (GIS) is able to determine these ‘signatures’ based off mathematical equations and different light frequency bands (red, green, blue, inferred ext..). An example is the the dark green blob, … Continue reading

Santa Rosa Island Trip

I spent this past weekend on Santa Rosa Island collecting my final GPS accuracy assessment points, as well as helping with marine debris collection. I was able to run 184 accuracy points which gave me a 84.15% accuracy. This week I plan to finalize all the map years with coinciding … Continue reading

AAG

This weekend I attended and participated in a conference in San Francisco. The poster presentation was a collection of three studies that analyzed Water Canyons Watershed. The main factors of the study were looking at the stream channel formation and …

AAG & Data Extraction

I have been working on extracting data for Water Canyon watershed for the American Association of Geographers conference held in San Francisco this year. I have also finished a rough graph. Showing the change in veg. class from 1993-2015.

Data Extraction

This weekend I have been finishing up maps and extracting vegetation data by three slope categories (0-10%, 10-30%, 30-90%). The vegetation data was extracted from a 1993 map and the 2015 map to figure out the change for each cover type. The largest decrease in cover was found in annual … Continue reading

ENVI Access

I found out some good news today from professor Patsch. I will have access to ENVI from a school computer in about a week or less, which will allow me to do the Dark Object Subtraction from all map years. Atmospheric Correction

Landscape Analysis & Methods

This week I’m working on delineating landform features (http://training.esri.com) that can be compared and contrasted with vegetation type and change throughout the years. Im working on finding access to the program ENVI but it if all else fails theres a generic way to do it through Arcmap. I have also … Continue reading

Winter Break Research

The last two months have been winter break and research has been going well. I was able to finish my 2015 GIS vegetation map of SRI! I also made it out to the island for a week and collected 73 ground truth points. The points were collected with th…
