      1. 5, All blogs were submitted on time.
    2. On a scale of 1-5 (5 being consistently), how consistent were you with posting at least one thorough comment on a peer’s blog?
      1. 4, I believe that i missed a comment one day, and that my comments might have been a bit less than thorough.
    3. One a scale of 1-5 (5 being very well), how well did you integrate class concepts into your posts about the Survivor show?
      1. 5, I feel that the concepts were highlighted directly in my posts.
    4. Please describe what you think your strengths were with regard to blogging and participation.
      1. I feel that timeliness was something i was strong in. As well i felt that i understood the general consensus of the show in relation to the class.
    5. Please describe how you think you could improve on your blogging and participation.
      1. I feel that i could have examined the show more whole heartedly, I wasn’t immersed the show as much as i would have liked.
    6. What did you like about blogging?
      1. I enjoy the free writing concept that went along with the posts.
    7. What did you dislike about blogging?
      1. I disliked the need to blog weekly, just because it felt that sometimes we were blogging monotonously rather than out of a purpose to talk about something interesting.
    8. What suggestions do you have for this assignment in the future?
      1. I feel that this could just be a turn in assignment, or that it should be done bi-weekly.

I hate Jon

Okay, he is so annoying and selfish. He does not care about anyone and that is not what you want in a group. It is his way or the highway. Missy, and Baylor, and Natalie all have their own alliance, and Jaquelin kind of sees it but Jon is too stubborn to. He sees Missy as his mom and she is just going to blindside him and knock him out. Reed has definitely showed leadership qualities when it comes to Alec and Keith. I am so bummed that Wes is gone and now Reed. Alec and Reed do not have a chance unless Jon and Jaquelin wise up and form an alliance with them so they can knock out the other three. They are stupid to have another couple in an alliance with them. If them team up with Alec and Ketih, at least one of them has a chance at the final three. I am so irritated. They do not know how to coimmunicate because Jon lashes out and then Jaquelin won’t talk to him. They are their own worst enemies.

Final Survivor Blog- Farewell for now!

1. On a scale of 1-5 (5 being consistently), how consistent were you with submitting your blog posts in a timely manner?
4 – I submitted my blog posts in a pretty timely matter every time.

2. On a scale of 1-5 (5 being consistently), how consistent were you with posting at least one thorough comment on a peer’s blog?
5 – I consistently submitted one thoughtful comment to a peer’s blog for each post that was due. I took the time to read through several of my peer’s blogs as well.

3. One a scale of 1-5 (5 being very well), how well did you integrate class concepts into your posts about the Survivor show?
5 – I feel like showed the effort & time I dedicated to finding evidence of theories & quotes that supported my thoughts. I feel like I did well when integrating that class concepts to the series. This helped me to remember the course information a little easier as well. When posting I also tried to include multiple instances from the show as well as multiple connecting concepts.

4. Please describe what you think your strengths were with regard to blogging and participation.
My newly discovered strengths in blogging is my security level with writing and having others read my writing, because that is not something I would usually be comfortable with. It helped me hone my writing skills, and watch my peers progress. Participation was fun when I had the time carved out to put together the type of blog post I would want to submit and have others read. I enjoyed being a part of it as a class discussion.

5. Please describe how you think you could improve on your blogging and participation.
I could improve on my blogging and participation if it was not such a consistent assignment- just more time to watch these episodes and read the course information. I could also improve on adding more direct quotes from the series to help my writing skills.

6. What did you like about blogging?
I really enjoyed learning how to use this technology and knowing I have this available through my school. I liked the freedom of design and comfortable outlet.

7. What did you dislike about blogging?
There is not anything I particularly disliked with the blogging itself, it was quite easy to follow and navigate through independently.

8. What suggestions do you have for this assignment in the future?
My suggestions would be less due dates for the blogs but overall themes we could identify over two weeks. So, one blog every two weeks, covering two episodes so it could be more clear. This may be bad for those who fall behind though. Also requiring more detail in the blogs so they prove they have watched the episodes and there is more diversity in the blogs.

Final Survivor Blog

3- I submitted a decent amount of blogs throughout the semester.

2.) On a scale of 1-5 (5 being consistently), how consistent were you with posting at least one thorough comment on a peer’s blog?

3.) One a scale of 1-5 (5 being very well), how well did you integrate class concepts into your posts about the Survivor show?
5-I feel like I did a good job on integrating class concepts into my blogs on Survivor.

4.) Please describe what you think your strengths were with regard to blogging and participation.
My strengths towards my blogging experience was being able to link class concepts to Survivor, as well, as keeping up with the show. This also helped me better understand the chapters for the exams.

5.) Please describe how you think you could improve on your blogging and participation.
I could have been more consistent when it came to blogging on time every week. Procrastination was my weakness when it came to starting my blogs. I feel like the quality of my blogs would have been better if I gave myself enough time to complete my blog posts.
I could have also posted more comments on other classmates blogs.

6.) What did you like about blogging?
I liked the whole concept of the blogs and how i can voice my opinion through technology.

7.) What did you dislike about blogging?
I did not like how there was a blog post due every week along with other assignments that had to be done. I am also not a fan of survivor.

8.) What suggestions do you have for this assignment in the future?
My suggestion for future assignments is to have less blog due dates.

Chapter 5 Group Leadership

This episode focuses in on the power dynamics of Jeremy and Josh. Jeremy is the leader we have identified form the beginning, he pushes that persona of himself. Josh is a leader that you feel a certain magnetism too because of his liveliness and wittiness. This is their face off for gaining power and we can begin to identify what strategies they are using, as well as what they can be categorized as. We see Jeremy thrives off of this personal power and being a leader, whereas Josh uses coercive power which is identified as someone who “controls and deals out sanctions and punishments”. We specifically see this in his attempt to convince Baylor to be his alliance because he was hers earlier on in the season. If we analyze Josh using the 5M Model of Leadership Effectiveness we can determine his manner of approaching Baylor was ineffective as a leader because for her to agree, she would have to feel like she can trust him as a leader…which she obviously doesn’t. Now if we analyze the leadership skills of Jeremy using the Fidler’s Contingency Model of Leadership Effectiveness, we would certainly categorize him as a task-motivated leader. Like stated earlier on, he enjoys his power. These two very different men are face to face, and this is getting very interesting to see which leadership type is more successful, but it is important to remember this leadership type can be most fitting for one situation and setting but not the other.

Final Blog – OVER AND OUT

1) I made a concerted effort to turn my blogs in on time in which I can say with certainty that I succeeded. I would give myself a 5.

2) I did kind of tail off on the last two blogs in terms of commenting on other people’s blog. For the most part, I felt like I did a decent job. I would give myself a 3 or 4.

3) I felt like I always integrated class concepts into my blogs because I thought that was the point of it. I would give myself a 5.

4) I felt like my strengths pertained to the questions above. I felt like for blogging, I took it seriously. I kept up with the show, blogged on time and always involved class concepts.

5) I could have stayed strong on commenting on other people’s blog towards the end. I’m sure I could have responded in lengthier responses if I had to do it over again.

6)I liked how it was only supposed to be 300 words. I felt like that was an appropriate word count to get your point across of how you felt the show related to class concepts.

7)I didn’t necessarily dislike the blogging, I just didn’t like the show survivor whatsoever. To me, it was more about deceit and backstabbing than it was how to be a good group or team member.

8)Maybe just pick a different show?

Blog-reflection & participation-survivor blog 02

1. I missed a few blogs but the blogs I did, I turned in on time but since I missed a few, I would give myself a (3).

2. I am going to say a (3) again because sometimes I would forget about leaving a comment. That really hurt me and it was a really easy thing to do so I was pretty frustrated every time I remembered about it the next day. It would have taken me a whole 3 minutes and since I don’t have internet access at my house, I should have made sure that everything got done using the internet at Starbucks. A lesson was learned on writing down all of the things I need to do so I won’t forget.

3. I always integrated class concepts into my blogs. The only thing that probably ended up hurting me a lot was the fact that when I would miss one, I would do that chapter’s concepts the next week for the following episode. So they didn’t always match up. I would say a (4). My strengths do not match up to the amount of weaknesses I had. One of my strengths however was the way I can describe and relate the concepts in the book and what type of situations developed in the shows through their communication. My weaknesses were described in my last 3 answers. Mostly promptness, not being prepared and poor participation as far as the comments go. As for participation in class, I think I was pretty active.

5. I enjoyed blogging and it was a great learning experience for me. It was sort of a challenge due to my internet access but overall I thought it was a great tool.

6. What I enjoyed about blogging  was the freedom. It gave me a chance to say everything that I wanted to say. I tend to over analyze things and kind of ramble so having the freedom to write a little bit more than expected was great or me. I always enjoy describing and relating,  so I was able to get all I needed to say. That was necessary for me to compare and contrast using concepts from the book.

7. What I didn’t like about blogging was the fact that it was an online assignment. For most people, this is a positive aspect but for me,again, I have a hard time with internet access. I also am much better when I am told how and what to do in class with instructions on a tangible piece of paper. It sounds a little ridiculous but I am better when I have the teacher there in front of me to talk to and ask questions.

8. I would suggest not having as many and being more lax on the deadlines. Not everyone has internet access all of the time and I do not think that should be a factor in grading the blogs.

    • 5 – I submitted my blog posts in a timely matter every time.

    • 5 – I consistently submitted one thorough comment to a peer’s blog for each post that was due. I took the time to read through several of my peer’s blogs and, I wrote thoughtful comments that included references to course concepts.
  3. One a scale of 1-5 (5 being very well), how well did you integrate class concepts into your posts about the Survivor show?
    • 5 – I feel that I did an excellent job of integrating class concepts into my posts about the Survivor show. For every post, I included various concepts from the chapter that corresponded with the post, and I also included concepts from chapters that had been previously covered.
  4. Please describe what you think your strengths were with regard to blogging and
    • With regard to my blogging and participation, I feel that my biggest strength was in applying course concepts to the show. I would review the chapter before watching the show and, then I would take notes as I was watching each episode. This really helped me to apply the course concepts to what I was seeing. In addition, I made it a point to read several of my peers’ blogs and, I always submitted thoughtful posts and comments in a timely manner.
  5. Please describe how you think you could improve on your blogging and
    • In order to improve upon my own blogging and participation, I could have given myself more time to complete some of my posts. I procrastinated on doing some of the posts and, I feel that this makes a difference in the quality of work that I am able to put out. Also, I could have posted comments on more of my peers’ blogs. Since I consistently read more than one of my peers’ posts, I could have left comments for the other bloggers as well.
  1. What did you like about blogging?
    • I liked having an online venue in which to express my opinions. When I sit in a classroom, I am not typically the one to raise my hand and offer my input but, blogging gave me an outlet in which I was more comfortable to express my thoughts.
  2. What did you dislike about blogging?
    • I experienced some internet connection issues throughout the course of this semester and, at times, it was frustrating that I had to wait until I was at a place with internet access to get the blogging assignment done. Also, two episodes had aired before the first blog was due and, this resulted in some students being an episode ahead of others. It wasn’t always easy to find a peer’s blog that was about the same episode that I had watched and, this made posting comments more difficult.
  3. What suggestions do you have for this assignment in the future?
    • In the future, I think it would be best to make sure that the whole class is watching and blogging about the same episode. Also, it might be a good idea to have students take a screenshot to prove that they watched the episodes. I know that some students were just reading other people’s blogs to find out what the episodes were about and, they would just go off what other people had written about. I feel that this unfair to those of us who actually took the time to watch the episodes and provide thoughtful responses.
