Reflection

  1. On a scale of 1-5 (5 being consistently), how consistent were you with submitting your blog posts in a timely manner?
    • 5
    • I would try and complete my blog post soon after watching the episode. This way, I would have everything fresh in my mind and could connect it better with the course concepts.
  2. On a scale of 1-5 (5 being consistently), how consistent were you with posting at least one thorough comment on a peer’s blog?
    • 4
    • Although I did post often and as quickly as I could, I would sometimes do a comment around last minute. Because I would post so early, many of my classmates would not have watched the episode and could not post as soon as I did.
  3. One a scale of 1-5 (5 being very well), how well did you integrate class concepts into your posts about the Survivor show?
    • 5
    • I think I did really well in connecting the episodes to the course concepts. At first, I did think I struggle, but over time I think I greatly improved as I really saw how the episodes connected to the chapter.
  4. Please describe what you think your strengths were with regard to blogging and participation.
    • I think my biggest strength was being able to post about the episode as soon as I could. When the new episode came out and the required chapter information was reviewed in class, I posted as soon as I could.
  5. Please describe how you think you could improve on your blogging and participation.
    • At first, I did struggle to connect chapter concepts to the episodes. However, as the semester went on, I found I was able to recognize chapter info more easily.
    • I also believe I did have an issue with commenting on others’ blog posts. Because I posted as soon as possible, I would have to comment a few days after – when most of my peers would also begin posting.
  6. What did you like about blogging?
    • By blogging about the episode and comparing it to the chapter concepts, I was able to see examples of how the information I learned is executed in reality. Since I do enjoy working with computers and technology in general, I actually do find blogging assignments to be easy and fun. I was able to create my own blog, set up a theme, and effortlessly update my posts. Another great thing I liked is how all of my classmates’ posts all show up under the same link on the communication website. This made it so much easier to read and comment on others’ posts.
  7. What did you dislike about blogging?
    • Because I tried to complete the blog posts as soon as possible, I found that commenting someone else’s post for the same episode could sometimes be difficult. I wanted to try and comment on a new person’s blog every week, but I don’t think everyone updated as regularly as they should have.
  8. What suggestions do you have for this assignment in the future?
    • I honestly really enjoy this show, but I do wish we could have some time to talk about the show in class. I think it would be fitting to use the show as a short review of the information we learned in class by seeing how we can apply the different concepts of group communication. I think this would also tie in the theme of Survivor back to the class.

Blog Post #10

The final post! Woo Hoo!

1) On a scale of 1-5 (5 being consistently), how consistent were you with submitting your blog posts in a timely manner?
-I think is was a solid 3.5-4 or 65% of the time I submitted in a timely manner every time. (Anchorman reference sorry)

2) On a scale of 1-5 (5 being consistently), how consistent were you with posting at least one thorough comment on a peer’s blog?
– I’d think about a 4.

3) One a scale of 1-5 (5 being very well), how well did you integrate class concepts into your posts about the Survivor show?
– 4.5 maybe?

4) Please describe what you think your strengths were with regard to blogging and participation.
– With blogging I’d say my strength was keeping keeping the focus on chapter concepts more so than the plot of the show. As for participating I felt like I was pretty active with commenting on other’s posts.

5) Please describe how you think you could improve on your blogging and participation.
– I could’ve improved by doing more of them and adding more chapter concepts to each episode. As for future blogging I will have an easier time navigating through the site. With participation I could’ve asked them questions more often.

6) What did you like about blogging?
–  It’s straight forward and can do it at your own convenience. *Thumbs up*

7) What did you dislike about blogging?
– It’s a bit time consuming, between watching it, then taking notes on parts then seeing which part makes the most sense for each chapter, adds up quick! Also there was a lot of posts.

8) What suggestions do you have for this assignment in the future?
– Reducing the posts in half to make sure there is no repeat info or concepts. Or giving a list of options of shows to watch and have class vote on best option. It can even include cartoons and other wildcard suggestions from class. Not sure, but go crazy with it!

Blog Post number 9

The latest episode is all about motivation, reward challenge was based around motivation. The reward challenge this episode rewarded the winning team with a charitable donation as well as a break from the games. It gave players motivation to win to do good a good thing for other people as well as for themselves. They showed not only personal motivation for victory but motivation driven by the knowledge that their efforts would have great meaning to bring joy to other people. However it seems kinda pointless to me when I think about it, that donation was going to happen either way regardless if anyone wins so the players were not really motivated by the thought of others receiving the gift but by the thought of the pleasure it would bring for them to be the ones to give it them. So their motivation was really personal and self serving and not as selfless as it seemed at first.

Secondly the immunity challenge was a huge play on personal motivation, by pitting players against each other as well as their own desires they revealed who was truly motivated to win the game and who was motivated by self satisfaction. Many players gave in to temptation of food, their motivation for the immediate reward of sweets, food and drinks winning out over their motivation to win be closer to winning the game. On the other hand some player knew they stood no chance or their need for food was so great that their motivation for immunity was no where near enough to overcome the challenge coupled with stress of the challenge.  Motivation for winning once again shines through as all group members band together in groups to deceive one another for voting a member off of the island.

Blog Post #9 Chapter 6

In the episode “This Is Where We Build Trust” the members don’t seem to know who to get rid of when it comes to elimination. A sense of choice came up in this episode when in the end of the episode all the game members had to chose for one of the contestants to leave. When they cased their vote they all chose who ever they felt like eliminating. When Jon and his group won the challenge  reward they showed a sense of competence by hugging each other and showing that they did good. I think that the group deserved winning because in the end they pushed to win the challenge and it was fair. The reward for the challenge winner was helping the kids of Nicaragua by giving them baseball equipment. The food and helping the kids from Nicaragua was fair because it showed that the group members were thankful to be able to have the game filmed there. The group members also won the challenge and food was fair enough to have after winning. Material compensation was meaningful for the kids.

In the challenge that the group had to face Jon felt so secure to not be eliminated so he quit the game for some candy. He received punishment in my opinion because he was almost eliminated and if it wasn’t for him using the idle Jon would of been out. This episode was full of surprises and I cant wait who wins the game.

Episode: This is where we gain trust

Motivation was key in this episode. The idol reward challenge took Wes over the edge and he could’ve used the idol to stay in the game. Instead he wasn’t strong enough for the power of the reward. The host used reward power as a way to give out “resources valued by members” and for Wes it was very much valued. In a way because of that power that the host had he changed the game for the players who originally had their mind set on Jon to be sent home. If only they read Chapter 5 Wes could’ve seen it coming.

Russia’s great breadth of territory includes many different geographical regions. These include areas of permafrost (areas of eternal ice) in Siberia and the Far North as well as taiga and steppes (vast grassland). Much of Russia’s northern and eastern coastline is hemmed in by ice for much of the year, complicating navigation. However, Russia has year-round warm water seaports at Murmansk on its northwestern coastline of the Barents Sea and at Vladivostok at the far eastern coast on the Sea of Japan / East Sea.
