Winter surveys complete

This weekend was very productive! I finished all six of my mainland sites for the winter season. Still surprised I managed to do all of that in one weekend but I am glad I did because this weekend I am going to Santa Cruz Island to survey a few more sites. Although you can hardly call it winter – all weekend it was sunny and beautiful out. Some of the sites had changed drastically due to recent winter swells; for example, Ventura State Beach by C-Street was missing so much sand and it had a significantly less amount of litter than it did during the fall surveys. I suspect the trash went out with all of the sand during the heavy surf. This week I also created a draft location map in ArcGIS for the locations I survey/remove marine debris.

I am really excited to get out to Santa Cruz Island. Dorothy, Robyn, and I are headed out to the west end of the island and we are camping at Christy’s Beach. I have never been to this side of the island before and I have been looking forward to going there for a very long time. More pictures and updates on the island trip to come next week.
